LATIN & THE ROMANS Doug Jones

We are a lively, friendly and welcoming group and we try hard to make our study of Latin and of Ancient Civilisations really enjoyable. So if you are not already a member of the group why not come and join us. We learn a lot and we laugh a lot. Each month we devote two sessions entirely to revising Latin grammar and translating from English into Latin. We call these “Latin Revision Sessions”. In the other two sessions we now spend about 45 minutes translating sections of a Harry Potter novel from Latin into English, and then, after coffee, this month Barbara Miles will speak to us about the Phoenician Civilisation.    Our meetings in November will be as follows:

Monday 3rd November 2.15pm at the Atlantic Hotel for a language revision session; Monday 10th November 10.30am at The Rest when we’ll translate Harry Potter and begin our study of the Phoenician Civilisation; Monday 17th November 10.30am at The Atlantic for a Latin Revision session; Monday 24th November 10.30am at The Rest to translate more Harry Potter and continue our study of the Phoenician Civilisation.

If you are interested in the history and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome and other ancient civilisations but don’t want to learn Latin, come and join us at 11.15am on 10th November and 24th November and then stay with us for the history session. You’ll be most welcome.
